As a result of publicizing this page, I've heard from several of Kathy's friends expressing to me their concern for her and their fears for her safety.
As well, a number of people contacted her directly and, as a result, Jeffery sent a rather vicious email to me. This morning, she and Jeffery went to the police to complain about the website. An officer called me to discuss the issue. His biggest concern was that Kathy's was upset that I had contacted her closest friends about this and he questioned my motives for having done that.
The first thing we dealt with was the fact that I have the right to publish this website (it's a Freedom of Speech issue guaranteed under our Charter of Rights) and to publicize Jeffery's criminal record, which is public knowledge - anyone can get the material I have put up here from the courts.
In fact, a bit later in our conversation, the officer confirmed for me that I had the criminal record correct - his exact words were "You've nailed it".
We also discussed the situation in general - the officer agreed that my ex has put herself into a dangerous situation, given Jeffery's past and his criminal record, which he indicated he knew of - and again, his exact words were - "We [the police] are well aware of Jeffery's record".
He also let me know that he had a private discussion with my ex, without Jeffery present, advising her that her liaison with Jeffery was unwise, and that she was endangering herself.
I don't know about you, but if a police officer told me something like that, I'd be paying some attention to it. Why Kathy is not I do not understand - she is not a stupid woman.
The officer ended the discussion by saying that he felt that what I was doing was "honourable", and that I was a good person and friend for taking a stand against Jeffery and this situation. In turn, I thanked him for making his concerns about Jeffery, and for Kathy's safety, known to her. I also told him that the price I was paying for this was the likelihood that Kathy would never again speak to me. But as I've said elsewhere, if she's safe, I can learn to live with that.
I've done what I can, and pretty much everything that is in my power to do - I've made sure that Kathy is aware of this scumbag's history, his violent nature and criminal history. I've let her friends and family know, and put the proof out there for all to see.
My friends, it's up to you. Please watch over our friend and keep her safe. I know you're concerned, and I know you're aware. And I thank you.
